Moshashane advises residents to use reading room

21 Jan 2014

Tsetsebye residents have been advised to utilise the village reading room, which has been equipped with four computers to improve their lives.

Former SPEDU director, Mr Kago Moshashane said during the launch of the Sesigo project at the village recently. He said the launch of Sesigo project meant that residents were connected to the world through Internet, hence the need for both parents and students to use the facility meaningfully to derive positive results.

He said residents now had access to free internet and basic computer training that would be provided at the village reading room. Tsetsebjwe Village Development Committee and the library staff were advised to market the library services to ensure its full utilisation.

He, however, cautioned parents to closely monitor usage of the internet by children as it had both advantages and disadvantages and contained materials that could affect their children negatively. Internet should be used for educational purposes, he added.

For her part, head of Botswana National Library Services, Ms Chinnana Selolwane said the launch of Sesigo showed the department’s commitment in ensuring the realisation of Vision 2016 pillar of an educated and informed nation.

She noted that it was their role as a department to provide Batswana with services as they had done in Tsetsebjwe. Ms Selolwane told residents that the Sesigo project was a global development project funded by Microsoft owners,  Bill and Melinda Gates to the tune of P33, 25 million in partnership with the Botswana government aimed at improving information technology in Botswana.
