BHC project to create jobs address accommodation shortage

27 Oct 2024

Infrastructure development, employment creation, and accommodation provision are some of the immediate low-hanging fruits that will be derived from the commissioning of the 100 houses in Matlapaneng ward in Maun.

Minister of Transport and Public Works, Mr Eric Molale, said Friday during the ground breaking ceremony of the project to be undertaken by Botswana Housing Corporation (BHC) that employment opportunities should be given to artisans in Maun.

“Fa e le gore batho ga ise ba rutuntshiwe re ka buwa le CITF go dira jalo, mme fa ba rutuntshitswe ka lenaneo le la Ipelegeng e e tlhabolotsweng go tlaa nna motlhofo gore batho ba go nna jalo ba bone ditiro ba tswa mo thoteng tse re leng mo go tsone,” he said buttressing government’s position on giving preference to employ locals every time there were ongoing projects within localities.

Minister Molale said projects such as the one commissioned in Matlapaneng ward were people-centred and undertaken to better the lives of local communities in many ways, including employment creation, skills impartation, amongst others.

Thus, he called on the local authorities to always prioritise improving the livelihoods of people within their vicinity.

Also, Mr Molale called on all to ensure that the project finished on time, within budget, and according to the specifications.

BHC Chief Executive Officer Mr Nkaelang Matenge explained that the Matlapaneng project would be divided into two phases.

The first phase will involve the construction of 45 houses, which are expected to be completed within 22 months.

The next phase of the remaining 55 houses will follow suit. Ends
