Youth decry negligence
21 Jan 2014
Youth people at Lekgwapheng ward in Molepolole have indicated that they are being neglected by fellow youths and parents.
They were speaking during a kgotla meeting addressed by Molepolole South MP, Mr Daniel Kwelagobe recently. Ms Merapelo Kaupa said health was vital and everyone should take care of themselves, adding that she was disappointed by the way some residents behaved.
She said she was angered by people who took their health for granted more especially those who were on ARVs but, were in the habit of throwing away the medication.
“I was moved when I found these pills on my way home. It wasn’t the first or the second time that I had witnessed such negligence, it’s becoming a norm and people don’t realise that they are wasting government resources”, said Kaupa.
The youths spoke in one voice and further advised that if people were fed up with taking such medication or if they felt they no longer wanted to use it, then they should take it back to the hospitals and clinics.
Moreover, they encouraged parents to use polite words when talking to their children. They said positive words could mould confident, polite and ambitious children. They pleaded with parents to raise their children in such a way that they would shun crime.
In other issues, the youths also encouraged others to always have their identity cards ready because they were important, regardless of whether one was literate or not.
“The reason why other people won’t benefit from programmes initiated to eradicate poverty is because they do not have IDs, but it is easy to apply and get it,” said Mr.Lekgotla Lebopo. In additional, they explained about the selfishness of those who managed to be granted business loans and are operating successfully.
They said it could work better for them if those who had been granted loans shared their knowledge and strategies they used with those interested and struggling to come up with business models.
However, the MP was disappointed over the ARV issue and further warned people that government in conjunction with other countries use billions of Pula every year to address the issue of ARVs, adding that if this persists, countries which are helping in this program might pull out.
He also said people who threw away ARVs were posing a bigger threat to the society, more especially to children who could eat them thinking they are sweets. ENDS
