Organisation calls for quality education

Africa, Education International (EI) reginal coordinator, Mr Richard Eringu has implored various education union members in Botswana to commit to the campaign for quality education by 2015.

Mr Eringu was speaking at the Trainers and Allied Workers Union (TAWU) capacity building workshop in Gaborone on January 10. “There is need to achieve quality education as it is the foundation of every society therefore we must establish common grounds for quality education,” he said.

He further said quality education was identified as one major thing that is missing in Sub Saharan Africa. Mr Eringu stated that the main pillars that quality education campaign tackled were quality teachers, quality tools and quality teaching environment.

According to the EI website, International Education (EI) was the voice of teachers and other education employees across the globe. It represented (through its 400 affiliated organisations in more than 170 countries and territories) to demand that quality education for all remains at the top of the agenda for a sustainable, peaceful and prosperous future.

The three days’ workshop by TAWU is purported to address capacity building goals such as assist in developing capable leadership for the unions through training on trade matters and other issues.

The affiliate unions who attended were TAWU, Botswana Sector of Educators Trade Union (BOSETU) as well Botswana Teachers Union (BTU). ENDS
