Selebi Phikwe East constituents have been encouraged to vote for the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) parliamentary candidate, Mr Tebogo Venson and his team of council candidates In  the October 30 general elections.

Speaking at the launch of Mr Venson in Selebi Phikwe on Saturday, UDC leader Advocate Duma Boko said the party had better ideas to transform the lives of Batswana, adding that they had proposed P4 000 living wage to take Batswana out of poverty.

If voted into power, he said his party would also increase students’ allowances to P2 500 as well as increase the old age pension to P1 800.

Advocate Boko said the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) had failed  to take Batswana out of poverty and to diversify the economy and create sustainable jobs.

He said UDC could not afford to lose the constituency and urged voters to fight by all their might to retain it.

Furthermore, he informed the people of Selebi Phikwe East that UDC sought to improve the quality of education in public schools to close the gap between them and private schools.

Once voted into power, he said UDC would establish the Ministry of Child Welfare and Basic Education to ensure that children were given a better care.

He said those schooling would be provided with breakfast and lunch. Advocate Boko accused BDP for failing Batswana through its educational system, which he said had no future for the young generation, adding that given a chance he would improve education.

Mr Venson encouraged constituents to also vote for his council candidates to make it easier for the party to drive developments at district level.

He vowed to work together with his team to develop the constituency and ensure that Batswana enjoyed new changes that his party would introduce to transform lives.

The constituency, which was won by UDC in 2019 would also be contested by Mr Leonard Mojuta of BDP, Dr Mokubung Mokubung of the Botswana Patriotic Party Mr Kgoberego Nkawana of the Botswana Congress Party and Mr Ofentse Ithuteng of Botswana Socialist Party as well as Mr Johane Odubile as independent candidate.
