MPs councillors nominations Friday
03 Oct 2024
Nominations of prospective parliamentary and council candidates for this year’s general elections will be held today at designated centres in each constituency and polling district.
Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) chief public relations officer, Mr Osupile Maroba confirmed this in an interview yesterday.
Mr Maroba explained that nomination centres would open at 9am and close at 5pm, with lunch break between 1pm and 2:30pm.
Each prospective parliament or council candidate, he said should be accompanied by endorsement forms from nine supporters, with a proposer, a seconder, and seven others.
He said the nine supporters should appear on the voters’ roll of the same constituency or polling district where the prospective candidate would be contesting for elections.
“The prospective candidates should produce proof of payment of P1 000 nomination fee for parliament candidates and P200 nomination fee for council candidates,” he said.
He further said independent candidates should produce proof in writing of permission to register their symbols for the elections.
He added that the nomination forms would be verified and approved at the nomination centre.
Mr Maroba pointed that IEC was well prepared to conduct a smooth nominations exercise.
“We have completed the training of returning officers and have also availed nomination forms for every nomination centre around the country. We have also listed all the nomination centres in our Facebook page.
The prospective candidates can check in our Facebook page or at the nearest IEC office for clarification of nomination centres in their polling district or constituency,” he said. Ends
