Affirmative action employs 360

Residents of Khwee have been informed that since inception of affirmative action programme, 360 youth from less developed settlements managed to get employment in various government departments.
Boteti South MP Mr Lebonaamang Mokalake said when addressing a kgotla meeting last week that affirmative action will where possible achieve the intended goals. Mr Mokalake said the programme has also assisted 122 young people from remote areas to get scholarships at different tertiary institutions locally. He also added that more than 33 000 were also enrolled under back to school to continue with their education at different levels.
As education is key to a better living in future, Mr Mokalake said government had also introduced some means aimed at encouraging the youth to excel at BGCSE. He said top achievers at BGCSE were given an opportunity to enrol at reputable universities outside the country.
Mr Mokalake said the latest of more than 40 students sent through the programme to various universities abroad were reported to be excelling in their studies. He said their excellent performance was a clear indication that the country offers education of the highest quality as our products were able to compete fairly globally. Mr Mokalake appealed to parents to urge their children to take education seriously.
However, Minister Mokalake has advised young people to stay away from alcohol and cigarette smoking as they have the likelihood of denting their future endeavors. He said in an effort to fight the bad habits, the alcohol levy has been hiked to discourage abusive alcohol consumption. He said the tobacco levy has also been increased by 30 per cent. ENDS
