Tshubalobone appeals to government for ranch

16 Jan 2014

Residents of Kanaku in the Jwaneng/Mabutsane constituency have appealed to the government to provide them with a fenced ranch with a borehole.

They say such a place will help them for grazing and watering livestock.

In an interview, Kgosi Tokosi Tshubalobone noted that they had identified such an area in the northern part of the village, and all they needed was for the government to fence and give it to the residents officially. He noted that currently they were faced with a challenge because the borehole was far from the village, and they had to drive their livestock there every day and back.

He said a farm with a borehole would save them the trouble because they would have the livestock staying in one area where they would graze and drink water. Kgosi Tshubalobone further noted that public standpipes would soon pave way for prepaid ones, and therefore they could not afford to pay for watering livestock.

On other issues, he applauded the government its Rural Area Development Programme (RADP) that are geared at improving the lives of rural area communities, which Kanaku is part of. He said in his village, apart from the cattle that were issued through the RADP, there were currently seven LIMID beneficiaries and ten residents had benefited from the poverty eradication programme. These received mainly livestock.

He however expressed concern that there were some beneficiaries who were negligent and left their livestock to go astray and even get lost. He blamed the attitude on alcohol. Subsequently, he called for monitoring of such projects by government officers so that the programmes could be more effective. ENDS
