Kefilwe relishes Slovakia experience

15 Jan 2014

At the age of 22, Motlakase midfield anchor, Ronald Kefilwe possesses qualities of a seasoned player.

Though little is known about this player, when in possession he is simply a marvel to watch. The man, who dons Jersey 20 when on Chouka colours, left many in awe during a match against Miscellaneous last weekend.

Kefilwe was like a well-oiled machine in the middle of the park, displaying some nimble touches and showing great vision as he could initiate attacks and controlled the tempo of the game with ease.

He was surely the toast of the day as he left multitudes who graced the game eating out of the palm of his hand, a speedy lad who knew when to pass the ball or find his way through a maze of opponents and proved his worth as he operated from all flanks.

Interestingly, Refilwe’s move to Spartak Benovce in Slovakia did not grace most of the local media as compared to other football stars currently playing outside the country.

Born and bred in Serowe, Kefilwe started his footballing career with second division outfit of Molepolole; Bakwena Royals then crossed to the seasoned first division campaigners Masitaoka FC before joining Motlakase Power Dynamos FC.

He divulged that his stay at the Palapye based outfit was short lived as the team was relegated to first division but his employers agreed to a loan deal with Notwane.

“Sometimes early last year while still playing for Notwane, international scouts descended on our shores and I was one of the lucky ones to get the green light to try my luck in Slovakia where I spent four months with Spartak Benovce”, he said adding that the reason why he came back home was because the Slovakian league was on break and he also had to renew his VISA.

Kefilwe said he still fancied chances of plying his trade overseas, saying in June, he would be going back to Slovakia where he would be on trial with a different team.

The midfield maestro who could also play as a second striker said the short stint he spent overseas was an eye opener and since he would be given another chance, he would ensure that he clinched a deal.

On the quality of football at Slovakia, Kefilwe said the league was more advanced and competitive when compared to the local one adding that most of the players were bulky and aggressive.

As footballing career did not have guarantees and could sometimes be very short and sour, Kefilwe said he was studying advanced diploma in Electrical and Electronics Engineering with New Era College before freezing the sponsorship because of his football commitments. ENDS
