BCP fields Hikuama for Maun West
21 Aug 2024
Member of Parliament for Ngami constituency, Mr Caterpillar Hikuama will contest the Maun West constituency in the upcoming 2024 general elections following the delimitation exercise.
Botswana Congress Party (BCP) president, Mr Dumelang Saleshando, informed the masses during the launch of Mr Hikuama and his prospective council candidates recently.
He called on the residents to vote for them during the general elections.
Mr Saleshando said Mr Hikuama was an intelligent leader who was passionate about bringing change not only in his constituency but the Ngamiland district as a whole.
He also described Mr Hikuama as a devoted candidate who advocated for human rights during his teaching journey until to date adding: “In Parliament, we the BCP MPs have also entrusted Mr Hikuama with the responsibility to be our prefect because he takes his work seriously. He is a true candidate you can trust and I urge you to rally behind him and his council candidates.”
He also stated that Hikuama’s voice was heard in Parliament as he is coming up with good motions that aimed at addressing the needs of communities citing provision of potable water to all Batswana wherever they were, including settlements.
Although, the motion, he said, did not see the green light, he stressed that it was testament that he had the communities’ interest at heart.
Mr Saleshando also urged the public at large to vote for the BCP noting that the party was ready and committed to build a new government that would advance the interest of Batswana.
Currently, the region, he said, was faced with a number of challenges including bad state of roads, low academic performance in schools and poor service in health facilities and informed the gathering that once they give the BCP a change to lead, it would provide lasting solutions.
Okavango MP, Mr Kenny Kapinga also recommended Mr Hikuama as the right prospective parliamentary candidate for Maun West saying he would indeed represent voters well.
He also revealed that the BCP had come up with a strong motto, ‘Enough is enough’, saying that challenged Batswana to embrace change to save the nation by voting the BCP in October to lead the country.
Mr Kapinga revealed that traditionally, the community depended on rearing livestock to sustain their livelihoods and that more needed to be done to secure lucrative markets for the farming community because the region was classified as a red zone due to the Foot and Mouth Disease.
Women’s representative, Ms Catherine Maekopo, also urged Batswana to vote the BCP into power. She said the BCP was an organised party determined to free Batswana through its clear manifesto. For his part, Mr Hikuama urged Batswana to vote for the BCP saying it was the only party that cared about their interests and aspirations. He said the party had good plans in place as well as visionary leadership.
“This time we want to take over the government but not to increase MPs,” he said.
Mr Hikuama also noted that he was ready to represent Maun West residents and urged the electorate to give him another chance at Parliament. Ends
