BMC to explore new business opportunities

Botswana Meat Commission (BMC) is committed to ensuring that value addition development and processing are attained.
Speaking at the inaugural Ngamiland Field Farmers Day at Mowana Twin farm near Nokaneng on April 6, BMC Chief Executive Officer Mr David Tsheboeng said the Commission had already been allocated a budget to develop a processing plant which was part of their Meriting strategy for the year 2021.
“The aim is to unlock the value of non-performing assets and explore new business opportunities,” he said
He also noted that the value addition and processing were likely to bring desired changes to the company and open more revenue income streams.
Mr Tsheboeng said this would lessen reliance on cattle and meat sales only, but intensify on development of meat products and other products such as leather tannery manufacturing.
Ngamiland region, he said would benefit from value addition from their meat which could be processed and sold at a better price.
Mr Tsheboeng said the plan was to accredit the Maun BMC plant for the United Arab Emirates market which would expand markets for the Ngamiland beef and offer better pricing for their cattle.
He said they were committed to finding more international markets for cattle and products as a way to commercialize farming in Botswana.
BMC, he said was stabilising and was experiencing a reduction in losses and urged farmers in Ngamiland to keep trusting its services.
Regarding the Ngamiland Field Farmers Day, Mr Tsheboeng said the event was a success and participation was impressive.
The field day, organized by the North West Integrated Farmers Association (NWIFA) on behalf of other associations in Ngamiland was supported by BMC as the main sponsor and other stakeholders on board. ENDS
