Board acquires 34 ploughing fields

Kweneng Land Board (KLB) has acquired about 34 ploughing fields between Thamaga, Molepolole and Suping to construct a sewage pipeline and water treatment plant in Marapalalo just outside Molepolole.
Out of the 34 fields, 17 are for sewage pipeline and sewage water treatment plant while the other 17 are for layout.
This was revealed by Kweneng Land Board chairperson Mr Kgang Kgang when addressing the media at Mogoditshane Sub Land Board on Thursday.
“A total of 34 fields except one has been acquired for these developments,” said Mr Kgang.
Further, he said the land board acquired 22 fields for expansion of Kumakwane village since there had been no allocation in the village for quite some time.
Meanwhile Mr Kgang also gave an update on how his Land board was faring in meeting the over 11 000 target as contribution towards the ministry of lands and water affairs’ overall target to allocate 100 000 plots by the end of 2023/24 financial year.
He said so far all the seven Sub-Land Boards in Kweneng have contributed a total of 6 055 plots with the biggest allocation in Letlhakeng last year.
About 2 922 plots have been allocated in Letlhakeng followed by Motokwe Sub Land Board with a little over 1000 plots while Lentsweletau and Thamaga Sub-Land Boards contributing over 800 plots each.
Mogoditshane Sub-Land Board he said only contributed 230 while Molepolole Sub Land Board contributed no plots for the same period.
However, Mr Kgang said at the moment a total of 9 024 plots which had been submitted to the department of Surveys and Mapping for examination, 6 198 plots were available for allocation while the rest of the plots were pending examination by the department.
From these plots he said Thamaga was expected to allocate a little over 3000 plots with most of these plots being allocated in Gatotwe in Mmankgodi.
He said Lephepe and Molepolole Sub-Land Boards were expected to allocate over 900 plots each, emphasising that the next sitting in Molepolole Sub-Land board would be allocating plots in Molepolole and
Mmanoko villages while Lentsweletaus Sub-Land Board would be targeting Lentsweletau, Kgope and Mmatseta villages.
Nonetheless, he said the remaining Sub-land Boards were expected to allocate less than 500 plots each.
He however noted that they encountered several challenges in land allocation such as lengthy acquisition processes in which some land right holders often were reluctant to release land.
Other challenges he mentioned among others, inadequate resources for timely production of plots, applicants not turning up for allocation interviews and contamination of some of the layouts by squatters especially in Mogoditshane. ENDS
