12 Dec 2013

Goals from Otlaantshekela Mooketsi and Francis Kanda ensured BDF XI finished the beMOBILE first round at the peak of the log when they walloped BMC 2-0 in a game played at SSKB on Wednesday, December 11.

The victory saw Matebele opening a five point lead at the top with 35 points while Township Rollers is second placed with 30 points. BDF XI has been solid this season and out of the 14 games they have played, they have lost only one, drew two and conceded only three goals.

The team has not conceded a goal in all league games at its home ground, save against BMC during the Mascom Top 8. Matebele have a chance of increasing their tally to 38 on Saturday, December 14 when the league games reach midway as they host Selebi Phikwe outfit, FC Satmos. There are reports that the team has lost its coach Letang ‘Rasta’ Kgengwenyane who is going for further studies.

On Saturday, December 14, all eyes will be on leading top goal scorer, Patrick Kaunda to see if he can break the jinx and become the first player to score against BDF XI in a league encounter.

However, China Mading and his charges have to keep their eyes on Mokgathi Mokgathi and they need to do more to penetrate BDF XI’s solid defence. While BDF XI has opened a five point gap at the top, the race for the second spot remains wide open and any of either Township Rollers, Mochudi Centre Chiefs or Gaborone United can finish the year behind the log leaders.

With 30 points, Rollers are only a point ahead of Magosi and two points ahead of Moyagoleele, meaning they have to get maximum points when they travel to Francistown to meet Tafic this Saturday. Following their poor start to the season, Mapalastina have discovered a winning formula with Sekhana Koko back to his top form and his combination with Jerome Louis has become a nightmare to defenders.

Against Tafic, they will meet their former mentor, Darlington Dodo who left Mapalastina due to a string of losses. Coach Madinda Ndlovu has less to worry about as Matjiminyenga are a shadow of a team of past seasons which used to torment big teams and further, Rollers have a completely new team and tactician which might prove difficult for Dodo to predict.

Gaborone United have had mixed fortunes, drawing against Satmos in their last league game. This means coach, David Bright still has a lot to do with his team which recently had disciplinary issues as both players and officials received red cards.

The Old Naledi - based team faces a tricky encounter against Extension Gunners at UB Stadium on Saturday afternoon (December 14). Gunners have had a bad start and find themselves in the dreaded relegation zone, with some supporters saying it is a ‘familiar zone’ as they are masters when it comes to avoiding the chop.
However, time is running out as Gunners have only accumulated 13 points, three points above rock bottom placed Notwane.
Mochudi Centre Chiefs alias Magosi hosts Miscellaneous in the only Sunday game (December 15) at SSKB Stadium.

The defending champions had a dry spell in November but, lately they have rediscovered their form after supporters called for the sacking of coach, Dragojlo Stanojlovic who however, still remains. Meanwhile in other games, Wonder Sporting hosts Nico United at Molepolole Sports Complex on Friday at 1600 hours.

On Saturday (December 14), Orapa United welcome ECCO City Greens at Itekeng Stadium while UF Santos entertains Motlakase at Molepolole Sports Complex. BMC who have had to play several games each week as they played catch up, host relegation threatened Notwane at New Lobatse Stadium. ENDS
