Over 15 000 register in Kgatleng constituencies

With only two weeks left before national registration exercise ends, eligible voters for Kgatleng continue to trickle to polling stations to register. As at week three, the three Kgatleng constituencies had so far registered 15 958 voters.
Kgatleng Central has registered 5877, Kgatleng East 4729 and Kgatleng West 5352.
Kgatleng’s Principal Elections Officer, Ms Gontse Tau, said she was hopeful that numbers would continue to grow during the remaining two weeks.
She said electorates in Kgatleng Central were initially confused with demarcation boundaries of the new constituency, but noted that surveyors were on ground to assist. “Kgatleng Central is mostly residents on the main village Mochudi, and they are still learning the boundaries because some wards had to be realigned,” she said.
Ms Tau said the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) was conducting publicity to encourage voters to turn up in large numbers.
Since the exercise started, she said, she was impressed with the turnout of eligible voters and that so far there were minimal challenges of some tents collapsing during heavy rains and winds.
Ms Tau said when exercise started there were minor rectifiable mistakes, where some information was skipped, but noted that they had since made corrections as they also captured contacts of those that registered. ENDS
