Not all officers get commuted allowance

The ministry of Defence, Justice and Security is aware that police officers especially those that were absorbed into the Botswana Police Service (BPS) from the ministry of Local Government in rural areas are not paid commuted subsistence allowance in lieu of decent accommodation
Minister of Infrastructure Science and Technology, Mr Johnnie Swartz said when responding to a question in parliament on behalf of minister of Defence, Justice and Security Mr Swartz said BPS is currently not paying the allowance to any of its members including those who were absorbed into BPS from the ministry of Local Government. He said to address the anomaly, a comprehensive survey is being conducted to check those eligible in order to pay them the allowance.
The minister was responding to a question by Ngami MP, Mr Taolo Habano who had asked whether he is aware that some of police officers absorbed from ministry of Local Government are not paid commuted subsistence allowance as stipulated by the director of Public Service Management circular DP4/ 12 VII (64) of November 11 2009. He further asked what action he will take to correct the situation which has gone on for years. ENDS
