Ministry launches mindset change strategy
12 Nov 2023
The Ministry of Defence and Security has launched the Mindset Change roadmap strategy targeting organisational improvement.
The roadmap, under the theme: Holistic Mindset Change, My responsibility! (Are Chencheng, Maikarabelo Ke Ame), follows the launch of the national mindset change campaign by President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi in July.
Speaking at the launch on Friday, the Minister Kagiso Mmusi said embracing mindset was crucial as the ministry was the face of the country at ports of entry hence the need to take the lead in launching the strategy.
“We know what we need to do to succeed, we need the right attitude, and the right behaviour,” he said.
He also said the ministry mindset change roadmap strategy would be used by all departments in the ministry, adding it was a response to public concerns relating to declining productivity levels.
The mindset change roadmap strategy is a two-phased transformation initiative. The first phase is an employee engagement process of communicating the benefits of mindset change to promote understanding and the reasoning behind the change.
The phase entails creating attention and engagement, and Minister Mmusi said under this phase, change leaders would engage with officers to provide support for the change.
Phase two will focus on translating knowledge, attitudes and beliefs into action. Such, he said would entail training and skills development to promote high-performance mindsets and behaviours needed for change to take place.
The phase also covers the measures to reinforce and sustain culture change, he said.
Mr Mmusi hailed President Dr Masisi’s mindset campaign strategy, saying it would also help the country beat the middle-income trap.
“As a generation, we are compelled to take the baton from those who came before us and deliver a high-performing nation by reclaiming our positive attitudes and behaviour,” he said.
Government Chief of Staff, Mr Boyce Sebetlela said the mindset change roadmap strategy would propel the country to the attainment of Vision 2036 as it called for high levels of awareness of the Vision through which the country wanted to achieve prosperity for all.
He said Batswana were always rallied to the greatest by past presidents, as they showed that it was impossible to lead and not drive people to greatness.
As such, he called for managers to emulate the President and rally their people to greatness
The ministry's permanent secretary, Ms Pearl Ramokoka said they were committed to implementing the mindset change and that would come clear in the ministry's annual plans and the reset agenda commitments.
She said recently, the minister signed performance agreements with the accounting officers to enhance performance in the ministry and deliver high-value services, in line with Mindset Change. ENDS
