Education light for change Morwaeng

The importance of education to change destinies of poor families cannot be underestimated as many have turned their lives around after acquiring education leading to employment and a better future.
Speaking during Sebele I Primary School prize-giving ceremony on Thursday, the Member of Parliament for Molepolole South also Minister for State President Mr Kabo Morwaeng said the importance of education cannot be taken lightly as it had the power to bring change to different families.
He said he was once a learner in the same school, coming from a poor family and it was education that turned his life and family’s fortunes around.
Mr Morwaeng added that prize giving ceremonies served an important role in acknowledging top performers and encouraging those who did not do well to pull up their socks.
He said government remained committed to acquiring universal education for all Batswana across the country and all children should be given an opportunity to go to school.Mr Morwaeng implored learners to focus on their studies so that in future they can become whatever they want to be.
He said children are the future leaders and they should be trained well to take the responsibility of leadership positions in the future.
Mr Morwaeng said Sebele I Primary School remained an epitome of success as it has been doing well since its establishment.
He said achieving a constant academic performance each year indicated the commitment of the school’s teachers and administration to produce well-rounded citizens.
The guest speaker, Corporate Services Advisor at First National Bank, Ms Boitumelo Rankata said acknowledging the constant need for change as per the theme Nurturing the 21st century learner: A re Chencheng Mode, called for understanding that things have changed for good.
She said this, should be understood in the context that today’s learners have access to technology and are more advanced in terms of accessing information.
She cautioned that for this called for guidance, and constant monitoring to safeguard the learners’ future.
The Deputy Executive Director of Botswana Accountancy College (BAC), Mr Oaitse Gabadirwe stated that government alone could not succeed in building a knowledge-based economy and the contribution of all stakeholders including parents and the community was necessary.
He told the learners that the formula for success in life was for one to work hard to excel so that they become someone and something in life.
The school head, Mrs Connie Regoeng thanked BAC for adopting the school and supporting it over the years and also purchasing all the prizes for students and teachers.
Mrs Regoeng said they have set themselves a target of 85% instead of the regional target of 80% and the students have been exceeding that target. Fifty-two prizes were given out to both learners and teachers. ENDS
