Parents participation vital in their childrens education

01 Nov 2023

Parents’ participation is essential in ensuring that children thrive in their studies.

Speaking during Matsaakgang Primary School excellence awards in Kanye on Friday, Mr Taolo Moshaga highlighted that youth indiscipline is of great concern, hence parents had to work closely with teachers to rectify such.

He decried alcohol and substance use by pupils, adding that parents were not doing enough to address the problem.

“I urge you to embrace mindset change and collaborate with teachers and other stakeholders to mould pupils into responsible future leaders,” he said.

Mr Moshaga observed that most parents do not make time to visit the school to enquire about their children’s wellbeing in order to assist where possible.

He advised pupils to always be on their best behaviour, as that also contributes to good marks, further informing them that education is power.

He said they should have a positive mentality towards their studies. “You have to tell yourselves that you will make it in education and work hard towards turning that dream into reality,” he added.

Mr Leach Tlhomelang, who is a Matsakgang Primary School alumnus, thanked teachers for their resilience, dedication and commitment and urged them to keep working hard.

He informed pupils that education is meant to open doors for them to a great future, hence the need to focus on their studies.

Mr Tlhomelang urged the school to always engage different stakeholders such as musicians to build future leaders, adding that they should identify different talents and nurture them.

Kgosi Patrick Sebati of Pitsaneng advised pupils against bullying, noting that it had negative effects on perpetrators and victims.

He urged them to always be presentable, in proper school uniform and avoid shortening tunics and pants.

Kgosi Sebati thanked teachers and parents for their efforts in moulding future leaders.

School head, Mr Seetletso Moroka said that the school always attained above 80 per cent in Standard Seven exams. He, however, said that efforts by all relevant stakeholders can take the school to greater heights.

“Whatever we have achieved is because of different stakeholders’ efforts and we thank you,” said Mr Moroka, encouraging pupils who will be going to junior schools to continue working hard.

Matsaakgang deputy school head, Ms Catherine Stegling said that the day was meant to acknowledge and celebrate achievement of learners as well as to show approval and gratitude for their good work.

She also said they wanted to make pupils aware that good work is rewarded and to motivate even those who did not get awards to work hard so that they too can be awarded in future.

Best performers per subject, from Standard One to Seven as well as best overall performers in each class received certificates.

The event was held under the theme: Resilience, Dedication and Academic Excellence Post COVID. Ends
