05 Dec 2013

Assistant minister of Local Government and Rural Development Ms Botlogile Tshireletso says she is aware of shortage of institutional housing at Ithuteng and Tshwaragano primary schools.

Responding to a question in parliament, Ms Tshireletso explained that Ithuteng primary school has 22 teachers houses whilst the total number of teachers is 34 and Tshwaragano primary school has 12 teachers houses - two of which have been vandalised and cannot be occupied against a teaching complement of 33.

She said in both primary schools, some of the available houses are occupied by teachers from other schools. In case of Ithuteng primary school, nine teachers are accommodated within the school, four in other schools, 16 in private accommodation while the remaining five are temporary teachers who are not provided with accommodation.

She further said an additional P16 million for major maintenance works for Kgotla offices is to be carried out by the department of Electrical and Building Engineering Services (DBES) this current financial year.

Furthermore, she said this financial year, one Kgosi will be trained for a course in diploma in law while four will do certificate in law.

“My ministry will continue to make deliberate efforts annually to address the needs of the department of Tribal Administration, resources permitting,” she said.

Ms Tshireletso was responding to a question asked by MP for Gaborone South Mr Kagiso Molatlhehegi who had asked her if she was aware of shortage of institutional houses at Ithuteng and Tshwaragano primary schools in Gaborone South constituency; if so, what she was doing to accommodate teachers who have not been allocated institutional houses and to state the time line for her intervention.
