BPS donates house to needy

30 Oct 2023

Botswana Police Service (BPS) on Thursday donated a fully furnished two bedroomed house worth about P260 000 to two orphaned children in Etsha 13.

Defence and security minister Mr Kagiso Mmusi said, the donation was not only a sign of compassion that stemmeed from a desire to improve the life of others but also spoke to Vision 2036 ideals.

Mr Mmusi said the donation was through BPS’s corporate social responsibility which was done across the country.

He said the funds for the house were from the police officers coffers as well as donations from some companies.

He thanked the BPS for enforcing law and order and encouraged the public to unite with them in their fight against crime.

Minister Mmusi said BPS would deploy well trained police officers to places with shortage of police officers such as Etsha villages.

He added BPS recognised the fact today’s criminals were sophisticated, hence took special constables for training. It was as a result of such trainings that BPS’s professionalism and diligence was recognised at home and abroad.

Acting Police Commissioner, Mr Phemelo Ramakorwane said BPS learnt about the two orphaned children in 2020 after which an assessment was done to appreciate their situation.

He thanked BPS officers for their dedication to the project. Ngami MP, Mr Caterpillar Hikuama thanked BPS for the donation, which he said would improve the lives of the beneficiaries.

Mr Hikuama implored BPS to prioritise construction of staff houses to address shortage of institutional and private houses for rental in the area.

The guardian, Ms Sidona Sivako expressed her gratitude for the donation. ends
