PPADB seeks regulatory mandate

04 Dec 2013

The Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Board (PPADB) aims to become one of the best institutions in the world by becoming a centre of excellence in public procurement and asset disposal.

PPADB has formulated a five-year strategic plan which envisaged that the organisation will demonstrate excellence if it could be transformed to a procurement authority with an oversight and regulatory mandate in procurement and asset disposal in Botswana.

Speaking at the launch of the 2013-2018 strategic plan, PPADB executive chairperson, Ms Bridget John, said there also had to be competition in procurement, where the government would be able to attain value for money in tendering.

Ms John said the strategy also anticipated that PPADB will demonstrate excellence if there was utmost compliance to the procurement procedures by all procuring entities and other parties. Public confidence also has to be there in the procurement system, an environment where there is transparency, integrity and no tolerance for corruption.

Some of the objectives of the PPADB 2013-2018 strategic plan include improving customer service where the organisation will develop service charter and conduct customer surveys and also formulate and implement the customer service strategy.

Another objective is to improve the level of efficiency and effectiveness of operations where performance standards and strategy monitoring plan will be implemented.

The strategy also aims to improve the level of compliance to corporate governance best practices as PPADB will develop and implement the corporate governance framework and also implement corporate governance guidelines for the PPADB Board and its committees.

The five-year strategic plan has been shared with stakeholders to solicit their support and cooperation in its implementation. Ends
