Masisi admits shortage8232 of transport problem

04 Dec 2013

Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi says shortage of transport does not affect productivity within government.

Answering a question in Parliament from MP for Shoshong, Mr Phillip Makgalemele, Minister Masisi said all departments reported on their service delivery and shortage of transport has always been seen as one of the main constraints in this regard.

He, however, said government had initiated the principle of sharing of vehicles or resources by government departments as a means to addressing the situation for the remaining period of NDP10. This initiative was mostly put into practice by some departments like Broadcasting and Information Services.

He said the Department of Information Services was also using BotswanaPost to deliver DailyNews to remote areas, villages and towns as opposed to using government vehicles. This initiative, he noted, had improved a great deal on the delivery of the DailyNews to most villages in the districts.

Minister Masisi meanwhile said due to financial constraints, it was not possible to ensure that transport is available as required. The only thing that could be done at the moment, he advised, was to ensure that the available vehicles were used efficiently and to the optimum.

MP for Shoshong, Mr Phillip Makgalemele had asked the minister to state the extent to which shortage of transport affects productivity within government and instruments the minister uses to inform himself on the situation presented.

The minister was also to state input he has made on this matter for the remaining period of the National Development Plan 10 aimed at addressing this disturbing situation. Ends
