Display professionalism and discipline - Tsiane
03 Dec 2013
Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) treasurer, Boitshoko Tsiane has encouraged sports volunteers to display professionalism and discipline.
Speaking at this Botswana Sports Volunteer Movement (SVM) annual general meeting recently, Tsiane also encouraged the volunteers to always assist whenever they were called upon to execute their duties.
He explained that one of the pillars of volunteerism was to provide services for free without any expectation for monetary or material reward.
In his keynote address, the Botswana Africa Youth Games Organising Committee (BAYCOG) chief executive officer, Tuelo Serufho, gave a brief background of the games on why they were established.
Mr Serufho said Botswana would be the second country to host them in May 2014 after the first games were held in Morocco in 2010 adding that two thousand volunteers from all over Botswana will be required to take part in these games.
The chief executive officer also reminded the participants that the volunteers would be the ambassadors of the country as they would be involved in all areas of the Gaborone 2014 Games, mingling with athletes and officials from 54 African countries.
In his closing remarks, the Chairperson of Botswana Sports Volunteers Movement, Segolame Ramotlhwa, encouraged the volunteers to prepare themselves for the mammoth task ahead. He urged them to stand the test of time as it would be the first time the movement handles an event of this magnitude.
The AGM was attended by all the eight regions of Lobatse, Gaborone, Northwest, Kgalagadi, Northeast, Central, Selebi Phikwe and Kweneng represented by their respective Chairpersons and Secretary Generals.
The Botswana Sports Volunteer Movement (SVM) was first established by The Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) in 2000 with the objective of organising the contribution of volunteers to sports development.
Meanwhile, SVM treasurer, Harry Kaota said at the initial stages of the movement, there was excitement and enthusiasm with commitment towards making the movement a success. He however, said the momentum slowed down over a period of time resulting in fewer activities resulting in the formation an Ad-hoc committee to revive the SVM movement in 2012.
The committee’s mandate came to an end in October 2012 which culminated in the election of a new committee with a mandate to run the affairs of the movement for two years before another election is held. ENDS
