District to spend P3.75m on internal road maintenance

Tlokweng District Council will spend P3.75 million from the Road Levy Fund to maintain internal roads
Tlokweng District council chairperson, Mr Collen Motshotlhi said this during the Senior Citizens lunch organised by Kgosi Puso Gaborone and his wife, Ms Thandiwe in Tlokweng on Saturday.
Mr Motshotlhi said they would use the funds to patch potholes, clean roads and address storm water drainage challenges.
He said they were planning to grade roads through the same funds and de-bushing some areas in the village as well as maintain the existing streets lights.
Mr Motshotlhi highlighted that the inaugural Tlokweng District council would deliver a number of major developments in the area including the construction of 25km internal bitumen road project to be completed in two years.
The council chairperson noted that they had already started tarring of three roads and had covered about 7.5 per cent of the work. Some of the roads project would cover areas such as Lenganeng, Mmaratanang, Letlapeng, and Metlhabeng areas.
Mr Motshotlhi said other projects included storm water drainage and solar street lights due to start in October and would take six months to complete.
Council chairperson said they were also building a recreational park with a conference facility, sports grounds, semi Olympic swimming pool and a braai area.
The recreational facility project, he said, should have been completed but had been delayed and be would be opened in December.
Councillor Motshotlhi also said that they were to pave 400 meters of Mmangwana Road.
He further explained that they had addressed the classroom backlog in Mafhitlhakgosi Primary and Batlokwa National Schools.
The project, he said had been completed and had identified a four hectare plot to build a Primary School in Mmaratanang, which would have 22 classrooms, a library, sports fields and other facilities.
He explained that they were also finalising the design of the new district emblem and would be ready in four weeks.
He said in February next year, they would be starting the construction of a taxi rank which would be completed mid 2024.
Mr Motshotlhi explained that they would relocate the rank to Mmaratanang while construction work project was ongoing.
Mr Motshotlhi said they would also maintain available open spaces, noting that they were putting up an expression of interest for 20 of 140 open spaces for small entrepreneurs to use at a fee. He said they appreciated Kgosi Gaborone for his contribution towards the village developments. ends
