FMK Trust rewards teachers schools excellence

Bobirwa sub-region, in partnership with FMK Trust, organised an event in Bobonong recently to reward teachers and schools that did well in the 2022 examinations.
About 93 teachers across various subjects in the Bobirwa Sub-district as well as Lentswe-le-Moriti Primary School, Badale JSS and Matshekge Secondary School received awards for their sterling performance in the 2022 Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE), Junior Certificate Examinations (JCE) and Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE) respectively.
Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Ms Nnaniki Makwinja, commended FMK Trust for joining forces with the region to honour teachers who performed well across the three national examinations.
“They made the parents, learners, community and my ministry very proud through hard work and perseverance,” she said.
Ms Makwinja said the awards would motivate teachers to up their game.
Furthermore, the assistant minister applauded FMK Trust for recognising the immense contribution made by teachers in educating the nation.
“As the government we are thankful for the teacher. You made us who we are and as the ministry we encourage more trusts and individuals to come on board to recognise you teachers,” she said.
She said collaboration and partnership with stakeholders like FMK Trust was one of the priorities in the education and training centre strategic plan, adding, ‘one of the key priorities is to partner with trusts or individuals to help us transform our education system’.
Stakeholder participation in the Bobirwa area, Ms Makwinja said was visible, hence commending them for supporting schools.
For his part, the chairperson and founder of FMK Trust, Mr Francisco Kgoboko, thanked teachers who supported the trust’s initiatives of supporting learners.
“We buy some of them toiletries, uniform and snacks, which go a long way in helping them achieve their dreams,” he said.
He said the trust’s aim was to award all those that needed to be awarded without any favour.
Founded in 2018, the trust is also synonymous with capacitating learners in completing classes to prepare for examinations.
The chief education officer for Bobirwa region, Mr Moses Tshetlhana said the region comprised two clusters: Bobonong and Mmadinare.
He said the region achieved an average of 75.8 per cent in the 2022 PSLE, 38 per cent in JCE and 18.9 per cent in the BGCSE.
He said more needed to be done, hence the need to re-direct resources towards achieving good academic results.
