Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) aims to put workers’ lives beforehand as they embarked on their second inter-regional first aid competition which was held at Francistown College of Technical and Vocational Education (FCTVE) last Friday.

The competition comprised six BPC branches from different regions from across the country, being the north, central and south regions.

The BPC Wellness Manager for Francistown, Mr Molelekwa Ramonna, said through the competitions the corporation aims to enhance the skills and preparedness of their workforce in responding to emergencies.

He also said since BPC employees worked in hazardous environments, it was essential to drill them on First Aid hence the establishment of the competitions.

The skill to know how to administer first aid was not only meant to be applied at work but could also be used to save lives at home and the community at large.

“Every life we touch, brings us a step closer to securing a driven nation, community and organisation”, emphasised Mr Ramonna.

For her part, the BPC Safety Health and Environment Officer (SHE) Manager for Francistown, Ms Annah Moncho, stated that it was within BPC’s right to have a helping hand in saving lives and had chosen the competitions as a way to disseminate knowledge.

“There are many incidents such as road accidents and veld fires which affect the country and the skills learnt here today would prove handy,” she  said.

Ms Moncho also said from the last competitions they held, BPC has witnessed an improvement in work-place injuries.
