Official urges mindset change among workers
03 Sep 2023
Serowe District leadership and public servants have been encouraged to embrace mindset change to improve operational efficiency and enhance service delivery.
Addressing a Serowe District leadership forum recently, the District Commissioner, Ms Angelinah Leano, spoke of the need for the leadership to familiarise themselves with new developments and changes within the district.
Ms Leano implored them to cultivate a harmonious working relationship amongst themselves.
She said there was need to set targets on what they wished to focus on, identify practices that they needed to discard and stop unproductive habits as well as to change some strategies.
Deputy Chief of Bangwato, Kgosi Serogola Seretse, expressed gratitude for the forum as it promoted unity and harmony in the public sector.
He said in line with the mindset change agenda, everyone should take responsibility for keeping their surroundings clean, and stop relying on Ipelegeng workers to do that for them.
He decried the indiscriminate disposal of waste that he said tarnished the image of the district, adding litter was a health hazard and an eyesore.
He cautioned those who pile litter at their homes and sneak out at night to dump it at ungazetted points that such practice was an offence punishable by law.
Kgosi Seretse expressed concern over undeveloped plots that he said were a haven for criminals.
He encouraged the owners to develop the plots so that they did not pose a threat to other residents.
Kgosi Seretse asked the Botswana Power Corporation to install tower lights at strategic points in Serowe and surrounding villages as a safety measure to curb criminal activities that were committed under the cover of darkness.
He said he believed that a minimum of nine tower lights and two in each surrounding village would serve the purpose.
Serowe District Council Chairperson, Mr Keneilwe Monageng, stated that it was important for public servants to improve their work ethic as citizens often complained about service delivery, citing suppliers of services to various departments who were not paid on time.
“The delayed payments highly affect their finances and business operations, thus narrowing opportunities for growth, hence businesses fail,” he said. ENDs
