Ramotswa district councillors discuss plan

Ramotswa District has made a proposal of over P7 billion for its district development plans over the next five years as encompassed in the District Development Plan 9.
Presenting project proposals for endorsement at a special full council meeting on Friday Ramotswa District Council principal economist Mr Frank Dexter said there was need for improvement of health facilities such as the maintenance of Bamalete Primary Hospital, increase of bed capacity and construction of staff houses.
He said there were plans to build a 24-hour clinic at Magope with testing lab and radiology while Lesetlhana mobile clinic would be upgraded to a health post.
Mr Dexter said Lesetlhana and Taung clinics would also be upgraded to 24-hour health facilities and construction of staff houses.
On transport and public works Mr Dexter said there would be construction of a 25km road between Boatle and Ramotswa and a 46km dual carriageway between Boatle and Lobatse.
He noted that the envisaged projects also included maintenance of internal roads and upgrading of gravel roads.
He said there would be construction of storm water drainage systems in Ramotswa, Otse, Taung and Mogobane.
Regarding the village water supply Mr Dexter said there would be potable water network rehabilitation and expansion for Ramotswa and the waste water network expansion in the village.
He said there were plans to rehabilitate the Boatle Reverse Osmosis plant and installation of telemetry including linking of Ramotswa boreholes.
Mr Dexter said construction of a magistrate court and a customary court was also in plans.
He said plans were in place for the Mogobane Agro tourism development and implementation and construction of the Lentswe La Baratani ecotourism project.
For his part Principal Economist in the RDC said the thematic working group was centred on poverty reduction and employment creation and the district would explore ways of maximising utilisation of local resources.
He said during the planning period the district would continue to implement policies and programmes that would promote equality amongst Batswana and ensure no one was left behind.
He said the district had been dealing with problems such as storm water flooding, pollution among others.
He said endeavours in previous plans had been made to address the challenges but they persisted.
The local authority key issue paper approved by a full council sitting detailed contemporary development challenges raised by residents of Gamalete constituency.
They were raised during DDP 9 consultations last month. ends
