Celebrations platform for new frontiers - Letsholathebe

28 Aug 2023

Celebrating milestones and achievements allows people to introspect and set new targets, says Member of Parliament for Tati East, Dr Douglas Letsholathebe.

He said when officiating during Spiritual Healing Church’s 70th anniversary in Matsiloje on Saturday that any organisation that wanted to make headway needed to reflect on progress made to venture into new frontiers and opportunities for expansion.

The church’s move, he said was therefore in line with government’s Reset Agenda in particular priority number five of Mindset Change, which had become the topical issue.

Those in the echelons of power according to Dr Letsholathebe could not go it alone without the input of important stakeholders such as the church.

“Ga re kake ra kgona fa le le kgakala le rona, ga re kake ra kgona fa e le gore re ipeile kgakala le Modimo. Ke sone se gompieno ke emeng fa go kopela bogogi jwa lefasthe la rona dithapelo gore bo tsamaise lefatshe le ka poifo Modimo,” he said borrowing an excerpt from the Bible that says the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.

It is therefore Dr Letsholathebe’s creed that for any change to be effective the church as the change agent had to be at the forefront and heed the clarion call made by government.

He recognised in particular, the founder of the church the late Prophet Jacob Mokaleng Motswasele for paving the way for the posterity.

The current crop of the Spiritual Healing Church leadership and general membership he stated was riding on the shoulders of great leaders of yesteryears who endured the hostility of the African churches under colonial rule.

Dr Letsholathebe also gave the government a pat on the back for having moved with speed just after independence to recognise the African churches and giving people the latitude of the freedom of worship.

“We have heard from the church also that we should give churches time to reflect on the changes that we want to come up with so that they could meaningfully contribute to such reforms,” he said.

Furthermore, Dr Letsholathebe, who is also Minister of Education and Skills Development called on the church to continue praying for those in the echelons of power and for peace of the nation.

Outright waywardness that had reared its ugly head in all spheres of the society including at schools, he stated needed the church to entreat the intervention of God to restore long-lasting peace in the society.

Spiritual Healing Church overseer, Prophet Joseph Motswasele echoed Dr Letsholathebe’s words saying the church was able to find its footing thanks to the determination of its founding fathers.

He thanked also dikgosi in Serowe such as Kgosi Rasebolai Kgamane for having embraced the commission of Prophet Jacob Mokaleng Motswasele at a time when the colonial government resisted the African churches.

He said further that Spiritual Healing Church had grown exponentially in and outside the borders and continued to religiously adhere to the laws of the land.

“We also subscribe to the unity of the church, hence we are a bonafide member of the Organisation of the African Independent Churches (OIAC).

Earlier on, Kgosi Eric Moipolai of Matsiloje said Spiritual Healing Church had hoisted the name of his village.

“The economic spin-offs derived from convergence such as this one has had a positive impact on the lives of our people over the years,” he said, adding that the village leadership was also taking advantage of the spiritual counsel of the church.

Bishop Charles Koitsewe assured that as a God-fearing entity, the Spiritual Healing Church shall abide by all the laws of the country and continue to pray for the political leadership of Botswana without ceasing.

He said also that the church had established numerous platforms geared towards instilling propriety among congregants.

“Let me also commend the government for teaching subjects such as Religious and Morale Education at our schools,” he said.

His sentiments were shared by Bishop Moutlwatsi Kokoro, who affirmed the church’s unflinching support to government.

The 70th anniversary was celebrated under the theme; “Modimo o na le rona. Spiritual Healing ka Bosakhutleng.” ENDs
