A re Chencheng torch bearer for everyone

20 Jul 2023

The ‘A re Chencheng’ slogan of the mindset change campaign is a clarion call for every Motswana to be a torch-bearer of the efforts to cultivate in the nation the spirit of constant growth and development.

Launching the campaign in Zutshwa in Kgalagadi North on Thursday, the President, Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi, said in order to surge ahead both as individuals and collectively as a nation, Batswana should not only embrace the call to do things differently but should at the same time strip themselves of all forms of negativity.

“Strip yourselves of self-doubt, strip yourselves of the poverty of the mind, strip yourselves of financial or economic lack. Our ‘A re Chencheng’ slogan speaks to our capability as a people to evolve and in order to evolve, we should firmly believe that we are capable of realising whatever goal that we may set out to achieve,” he said.

President Masisi said it was pleasing that Botswana had already taken maiden steps in line with the objectives of the mindset change campaign and that the outcome of the efforts that had so far been made was encouraging.

He said the recently concluded Botswana and De Beers diamond deal through which the country would enjoy better returns from its diamonds, as well as slowly finding traction in its efforts to become a hub for hosting major conferences and events all pointed to the country’s potential to break even more milestones.

Dr Masisi also called on the nation to ensure that the virtues of Bofefo, Botswerere, Bonatla, Bophepa underpinned all that Batswana did either as individuals or as a collective, saying these were at the heart of the mindset change campaign as they spoke to the need to constantly improve in all areas.

Additionally, Dr Masisi implored Batswana to maintain the cohesion and oneness that had seen the country’s diverse tribes co-exist peacefully through time, noting that this made them a formidable team that could surmount any challenge.

He urged the nation to hold on to the resilience and tenacity that had carried them through tough times such as droughts and disease outbreaks in the past, and said if Batswana remained as resolute as they had done countless times before in the face of adversity, they would realise all their aspirations as a nation.

Earlier when welcoming President Masisi to Zutshwa, Kgosi Abathene Kabatlhophane called on Batswana to embrace the call to change.

Kgosi Kabatlhophane said any reluctance to change and do things differently would stall the pace of the country’s development and advancement.

The mindset change campaign which President Masisi was launching seeks to cultivate in Batswana the spirit of doing things differently to achieve better outcomes and to also build a high performance culture among citizens.

Also, it seeks to give the country a push towards the achievement of the Vision 2036 ideal of prosperity for all. Ends
