Motivated employees are more efficient and results oriented, traits that are critical to any successful organisation.

Acting district agricultural coordinator, Dr Benjamin Sebonego said during the 2023 Southern Region Excellence Awards in Kanye recently that motivated motivating employees with awards was important because awards made employees more productive, more engaged, and generally happier, adding that people worked harder when they knew they were appreciated.

Such could not be truer for the young generation entering the workforce, he said.

“These young workers are not just looking for a fair wage and compensation benefit, they are also looking for meaningful and fulfilling work where they feel what they are doing does not go unseen. 

Part of what makes a job meaningful is recognition for a job well done, and companies with robust employee appreciation programmes will be more appealing to these younger generations of workers.”

Dr Sebonego stated that the main objective of the awards was to celebrate and honour outstanding individuals nominated by their peers for demonstrating resilience, leadership and innovation in the agricultural sector.

He emphasised that the agriculture sector generated hundreds of millions of pula for the country’s economy, hence the employees should work hard to yield more results. 

The coordinator urged the nominees to be exemplary to the society by extending their helping hands towards getting people into better markets according to their specialties and make people wealthier by applyng their minds. 

Upon receiving the long service award, 60-year-old Mr James Montshioa, who served for 38 years, noted that the award was a symbol of the blessings that he received during his journey till his last date in the office.

“I am grateful for having held this award. 

Many challenges and problem appeared during the journey, but with time and dedicated efforts each of them got solved, hence it is today that you all can see how blissful smile is accompanying me. 

Our collective team efforts have resulted in such incredible results, and it is a great achievement of each individual team member,” he said. 

Mr Montshioa expressed hope that the award would motivate other colleagues and the future generation. ENDs
