Kgang issues warning to squatters

10 Jul 2023

Anyone who illegally allocates themselves or buys land so acquired should know the law will not spare them.

Kweneng Land Board chairperson Mr Kgang Kgang, made the warning when addressing a kgotla meeting in Mmopane recently.

He said illegal land allocation remained rife and perpetrators were from all sectors of society. “Investigations have revealed that public figures such as dikgosi, politicians and lawyers are involved in illegal land occupation,” he said.

Mr Kgang said the aftermaths of the offence were devastating and embarrassing and people should wisely follow proper procedure to avoid nasty repercussions such as loss of money and property.

He said action would be taken against squatters in Mmopane and anyone who purchased illegally acquired plots in the area or anywhere within the land board’s jurisdiction.  “The land board will not hesitate to repossess any plot occupied illegally, regardless of the amount of investment on it,” he said.

Responding to complaints from residents on the tedious land allocation process, Mr Kgang said they were targeting 10500 plots were due for allocation in Kweneng this financial year.

That excluded 4500 plots left over from last year’s allocation owing to tender survey disputes.

He said 1610 plots would be allocated in Mmopane. “The layout is on its final stages as we speak,” he said. ends
