Gumare celebrates results

05 Jul 2023

Gumare Primary School management and teachers have been commended for commitment towards excellent results.

The commendation was made by North West Regional Director of Education - Operations, Ms Veronica Mochotlhi at a victory celebration recently.

The school was among the top 10 best performing primary schools in the 2022 Primary Schools Leaving Exams (PSLE) in the North West region with 81.5 per cent.

Ms Mochotlhi said, Gumare Primary School was on the right track of producing quality learners, as espoused in the Ministry of Education and Skills Development’s mandate of producing well-rounded learners.

The school, she said, had managed to meet the ministry’s target for primary schools, which was 80 per cent, hence became position one in the Gumare education sub-region.

Ms Mochotlhi noted that although the ministry had qualified teachers, it had challenges of increasing numbers of learners, which overwhelmed existing infrastructure.

She also observed that North West region strove to improve results and expressed happiness that there was improvement from 2021 in all schools from primary to senior schools, which she attributed to a 2020 seminar by the region to reflect on poor results of schools.

In his remarks, Gumare Primary School head, Mr Keneilwe Banks attributed the excellent results to dedication and parental support.

He observed that the school did not do well in the past 10 years until he came on board in 2020.

The school, he said, was among the oldest - established in the 1930s.

The school currently has about 1 052 leaners, 36 teachers, seven non-teaching staff and 18 Tirelo Sechaba participants.

He said the school had challenges of shortage of staff houses as well as shortage of text books and stationery. ends
