Gaborone City Council (GCC) has been advised to conform to the international accounting standards and the Township Act by implementing audit recommendations in order to improve its financial operations and procedures.
Tabling the audited financial statement for the year ended March 2018 before the City Council, Principal Accountant, Mr Daniel Lelaka said records had been submitted later than the statutory annual submission date of June 30, which was a concern.
Mr Lelaka drew the councillors’ attention to the Auditor General’s opinion that the balance sheet and the annual accounts as prepared and presented did not present the correct financial position and operational results of the council. However, he pointed out that the councillors could take comfort from the fact that the opinion did not state that the Auditor General had failed to give a statement pertaining to the accounts as per the running of the council.
Mr Lelaka highlighted that the council had over P20million surplus in the financial year 2017-2018.ENDS
