Children with special needs are unique and they need people who understand their capabilities to make them feel worthy.

This was said by Amazonia Social Club chairperson, Mr Kagiso Mogotsi after donating a car wash to Kgafela Primary School special education learners in Mochudi recently.

“As a society we should be able to integrate every special needs learner so that they feel a sense of belonging,” Mr Mogotsi said.

However, he said there was no budget for social responsibility activities because they relied more on other stakeholders.

“Funds were raised through support from other social clubs in the community through organising tournaments who found it fit to support this initiative. We thank the social clubs for their support. Their efforts will not go unnoticed,” he said.

For his part, Kgatleng District Council chairperson, Mr Daniel Molokwe commended social clubs at Boseja ward in Mochudi for upholding the spirit of giving back to the community as well as those who had made the initiative possible.

Mr Molokwe said the donation would go a long way in imparting the entrepreneurial skills to learners at a young age.

Special education department teacher at Kgafela Primary School, Ms Malebogo Garebamono explained that the school had 36 learners under the guidance of teachers and teaching aides.

Ms Garebamono said the children were intellectually challenged at different levels and were taught through stimulation so that they learned about life skills.

Meanwhile, Boseja Central’s Councillor Molemane Maje thanked the Amazonia Social Club for extending a helping hand to the school, saying that would help learners with special needs to be self-reliant.

Mr Maje thus challenged other organisations to embark on social responsibility activities such as agricultural production as espoused in government’s Reset Agenda.

Kgafela Primary School offers intermediary and stimulation programmes to children with disabilities through social welfare services. Ends
