The Vice President, Mr Slumber Tsogwane, yesterday, officially opened the revamped Blue Jacket Plaza, one of the shopping malls in Francistown.

The mall, which is managed by Khumo Properties, is a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) initiative. Mr Tsogwane said the refurbished mall would increase and diversify the city’s economic activities. He said the mall held a special place in the hearts of Francistown residents because it has been a symbol of unity, progress, and vibrancy for generations.

“It has witnessed the evolution of the city, and the growth of its people, and the spirit of entrepreneurship that permeates its streets,” he said. Mr Tsogwane explained that the mall formed part of the social fabric of the historical city and is a landmark as evidenced by its strategic location in the heart of Botswana’s second city.

He said the re-development of the mall was commendable and was a testament to the benefits of collaboration of different partners such as financiers, institutional investors, and built environment professionals as well as government in creating an enabling business environment and delivery of projects.

“Investment in this mall serves as testament to our unwavering belief in the potential of Francistown. It will serve as a catalyst for economic growth, attraction of investors, and generation of employment opportunities,” he added.

He explained that projects such as the Blue Jacket Plaza were seen to fruition because of skilful planning and convergence of various skills and relentless resolve in careful execution of projects to completion.

He applauded Khumo Properties and its various partners for giving the shopping complex a major facelift. He called on the investors to ensure that the space was inclusive and accessible to all members of the community.

“We must observe and protect its natural surroundings, and embrace sustainability and environmental consciousness. We must foster an atmosphere of safety and security so that everyone feels welcome and at ease,” Mr Tsogwane stated.

The Mayor of Francistown, Cllr Godisang Radisigo said projects such as the facelift of the Blue Jacket Mall bore testimony to the significance of Francistown’s revitalisation project. ENDS
