Serowe District Council newly appointed chairperson, Mr Keneilwe Monageng has promised quality service delivery which has been a concern from the electorates.
Mr Monageng was officially opening the first assembly of full council session of the newly established district on Monday.
The theme for his roadmap as the first council chairman for Serowe district was: “Taking the New District to Greater Heights in Contribution to Transformation Towards High Income Economy.”
He said he chose the theme as a catalyst to refocus his roadmap. His roadmap, ambitious as it may be, was anchored on Botswana’s high-level strategies of Vision 2036, Sustainable Development Goals, 2023-2025
Transitional National Development Plan, Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development strategy of 2021-2025 and the RESET and Reclaim Agenda.
“This decentralisation could not have come at the right time,” he sad. “We had long waited for this initiative to be implemented.”
He said it was also pleasing that the meeting was, for the first time after the relaxation of COVID-19 protocols, conducted physically.
Mr Monageng assured councillors that he would give his best effort in this leadership position.
He also promised to set a solid foundation for the new district and would ensure that they started on the right footing because he wanted to leave behind the legacy that would be admired by all and be lifted up high by those who would come after him.
“It was gratifying to note that my vision speaks to the topical issues confronting humanity to date, which should remain the top of the agenda of the district, these include democracy, development, self-reliance, unity and botho,” he said.
Top five priorities in his roadmap, he said included improved quality service provision, acceleration of projects and programmes, promoting private sector participation in economic development, and job creation, especially through the Local Economic Development (LED), promoting citizen economic empowerment and promoting a defined multi sectoral structure inclusive of civil societies to combat Gender Based Violence (GBV) and alcohol abuse as well as public indecency.
Cllr Monageng decried that the general public was not happy about the way they received services from the government. ENDS
