Morwaeng receives radio award

Minister for State President, Mr Kabo Morwaeng has received the radio award from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan.
The award is in recognition of Minister Morwaeng’s contribution to the development of the Japanese Terrestrial Digital Broadcasting System (ISDB-T) Botswana, becoming the first country to adopt the system and achieving complete transition to digital broadcasting in October last year. Mr Morwaeng is the second official from Botswana to receive the award after President Dr Mokgweetsi
Masisi who received the award while he was Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration in 2013.
Receiving the award recently, Mr Morwaeng acknowledged the role that the Japanese government was playing in the development of Botswana, particularly in the field of technology, broadcasting and scholarships for different sectors.
That, he said meant Batswana received better quality signal, opportunity to introduce more television channels and more content requirement which translated in to job opportunity created. He said the recently introduced channels on the Botswana Television spectrum represented a significant and solid television broadcasting platform.
“Botswana highly considers Japan as an important developmental partners and the country is committed to nurturing the bilateral relation between the two countries for the betterment the community,” the minister said.
He appealed to the Japanese government to assist Botswana with state-of-the-art cameras and other broadcasting equipment. ENDS
