Land allocation at 93 per cent
20 Jun 2023
The Tati Land Board will allocate 4 333 residential plots and 828 ploughing fields at Masingwaneng, Mambo, Matsiloje and Patayamatebele during the 2023/24 financial year.
Addressing a full meeting of the North East District Council, the Council Chairman, Mr Kudzani Tobokwani said that allocation would go a long way in addressing the long waiting lists in some villages in the district.
Cllr Tobokwani said during the 2022/23 financial year, Tati Land Board allocation target was 6 511 residential plots but to date, the board had managed to allocate 6 082 plots. He revealed that 3 336 surveyed plots were currently with the Department of Surveys and Mapping for examination and approval for allocation.
However, Cllr Tobokwani said despite the land allocation, they were now faced with a backlog of unserviced land in allocated plots and in some instances people were allocated bad plots.
He advised that it was significant for land board and council to work together and see how best they could solve the challenge and also encourage technocrats to do thorough assessment before land allocation to avoid allocation of plots in bad areas.
Regarding the Local Economic Empowerment (LEE), Cllr Tobokwani said subsequent to the implementation of the Economic Inclusion Act in April 2022, NEDC was doing well in terms of LEE and employment creation.
Cllr Tobokwani said procurement preferences were reserved to local suppliers and skilled laborers except on instances where some commodities were not available. ends
