Kgosi Tawana II of Batawana was on Monday sworn in as a new member of Ntlo ya Dikgosi.
Kgosi Tawana II returns to bogosi after quitting to join active politics some years back where he ultimately resigned to pursue other personal interests.
He is also the former chairman of the then House of Chiefs from 1999-2002, where he was succeeded by Kgosi Mosadi Seboko of Balete.
During the short ceremony which was thronged by Batawana, the chairman of Ntlo ya Dikgosi, Kgosi Puso Gaborone of Batlokwa said that as a former member of the house, Kgosi Tawana II’s return was welcome.
He said that as dikgosi, they needed their tribes’ support.
“As dikgosi, our responsibility is nation building, and we can do that better with the support of our people. So, in that way it is a good gesture by the people of Maun to come in large numbers to witness their kgosi as he was sworn in to resume his new responsibilities in this house,” he said.
Kgosi Puso also appreciated Ms Kealetile Moremi for her stellar performance in the house while she was holding fort during her brother’s absence.
“She brought in motions and asked questions that assisted this house, and for that we appreciate her,” he said. Ntlo ya Dikgosi will this week be briefed by different governmental departments, parastatals and independent organisations before the questions and motions session next week. A total of 122 questions and 13 motions are expected to be addressed. Ends
