Two people, a man and a woman died when a vehicle they were travelling in overturned near Shashe bridge yesterday at around 630pm.
Tonota Police Station Traffic Station Officer, Assistant Superintendent, Keogotsitse Rasina said one of the deceased person, a middle aged woman, might have died on the spot but was certified dead on arrival at Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital.
The second person, a 43-year-old man, who was the driver, died this morning at Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital after sustaining multiple body injuries.
Assistant Superintendent Rasina explained that there were 10 passengers in the double Cab Hilux, which was bound for South Africa, adding that all the occupants were Zimbabwean nationals.
He explained that the cause of the accident was not yet known but the police suspected that speeding contributed to the accident as the accident occurred at an 80 km/h speed limit area.
Assistant Superintendent Rasina further indicated that the driver of the vehicle had informed the police that he was trying to avoid a donkey which was on the road before the vehicle crossed to the opposite lane after he lost control.
He said only one person escaped the accident with minor injuries and was discharged from hospital this morning whilst six remained hospitalised in a serious but stable condition.
Assistant Superintendent Rasina appealed to motorists to drive with caution on the A1 highway especially at night because the road had stray animals as the road reserve fence had been destroyed. Ends
