With tears in her eyes and a smile on her face, Ms Dudu Ramokgwana watched as her son take the first ride on his new wheelchair donated by Dingwetsi Association of Kanye (South branch).

Speaking during the recent handover ceremony in Kebuang Ward, Ms Ramokgwana said the wheelchair would enable both her and her 21-year-old-son to go about normal daily activities.

“It is going to open up a new life for me, and make things a lot easier,” Ms Ramokgwana said after receiving the wheelchair.

She explained that she has struggled for the past 21 years to take care of her son who was born with a disability that has resulted in developmental delay, visual impairment, speech defect, seizures, and a low muscle tone.

“Before this gift, my son relied on me to carry him from room to room because he can’t sit up, stand, crawl or walk. I have been praying for this day for so long,” she cried softly as the young man was wheeled around.

President of Dingwetsi Association, Ms Grace Silver, said the organisation derived satisfaction from helping to make life easier for other members of the community since the association’s membership comprised people from different professions and varying backgrounds. ENDS
