Various mourners eulogise MmaTshelang

“What we do for ourselves dies with us. What we do for the world remains and is immortal.”

The quote by American orator, Albert Pike perhaps sums up the impressions on Ms Precious Masego Masisi, gleaned from speeches by various speakers during her funeral in Moshupa on Saturday.

Representatives of various organisations Ms Masisi worked with took to the podium to pay tribute to her.

Representing Botswana Democratic Party (BDP), specially elected councillor, Ms Ponatshego Tshiping said it was only right that Ms Masisi, popularly known as MmaTshelang, got involved in the affairs of the party as she was a wife to one of the party pioneers.

She was married to the late Mr Edison Setlhomo Masisi.

“Apart from being married to a politician, she also nurtured political sons, which was quite a task that she nonetheless handled well,” she said.

Ms Tshiping said MmaTshelang had the chance to watch the initial steps of her son, President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi as head of state, the task she labelled the toughest compared to that of his predecessors.

She said MmaTshelang worked well with them in the party when the political landscape was still tough. “She was a dedicated leader who soiled for the party when it was still struggling with resources.  She did her part in developing this country and heaven will surely celebrate her entrance,” she said.

Ms Tshiping also described MmaTshelang as one who never looked back even in the face of obstacles, adding she died having achieved all the good a human being could.  Other organisations that

Ms Masisi worked closely with included the Young Women’s Christian Association, Child-to-Child and the Botswana Red Cross.

Moshupa MP, Mr Karabo Gare also labelled MmaTshelang as a good example that should be used to motivate others on different aspects of life.

“We also have to thank her family for giving her support to achieve so much and she will forever be remembered for her deeds,” he said.

For his part, Kgosi Kgabosetso II Mosielele said MmaTshelang had completed her job on earth, rendering her departure worthy.

“She left having raised a generation. I was one of those lucky ones to have her as she often volunteered do to some chores at the kgotla,” he said. ENDS
