11 Jun 2023
People living in remote areas, just like any Motswana, deserve equal and proper services provided by the government, says Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Talita Monnakgotla.
Speaking in a kgotla meeting in Malatswae recently, Ms Monnakgotla said improved services in rural areas in sectors such as education, health and social development would mean improved lives for such people.
“In future I want to see people from Malatswae holding prominent positions such as that of ministers and directors among others.
I will always advocate for taking better services closer to people living in remote areas,” she said.
The minister, therefore, assured Malatswae residents that a vehicle that would be used at RADS hostels would soon arrive.
Since the world is in an era of Information Communication Technology era, Ms Monnakgotla also promised an installation of Wi-Fi at Malatswae kgotla for the public to access.
Nonetheless, the minister encouraged Malatswae community to embrace and take advantage of any government programme aimed at improving lives, such as the new Ipelegeng programme.
She also highlighted that it was important for the village development committee (VDC) to work hand in hand with the social and community development office towards the realisation of sustainable community projets.
Meanwhile, presenting a VDC report, the chairperson, Ms Boitumelo Keoganne said Malatswae Primary School was challenged with shortage of accommodation for teachers.
She said the school had 28 teachers, while there were only nine houses.
Toilets at the school are also said to be few and in a bad state, while enrollment is 585.
Ms Keoganne also noted that shortage of transport at Malatswae RADS hostel was a serious challenge, especially in times of emergencies such as sickness.
RADS hostels are also said to be challenged with malfunctioning geysers to warm bath water for pupils.
The VDC chairperson also said the hostel fence was dilapidated and needed maintenance.
Ms Monnakgotla had an opportunity to tour and appreciate the state of Malatswae RADS hostels. ends
