Construction of Gaborone’s two new primary schools is almost complete.
Thus revealed Gaborone City Council (GCC) deputy town clerk, Mr Olebile Mafala in an interview after a tour of the two projects on Wednesday.
He said the two primary schools at Phase IV and Block VI, which were constructed under the Economic Recovery and Transformation Plan (ERTP), were currently at 98 per cent completion stage.
He said the remaining phase, which comprises external works such as paving, would be complete by end of July.
Mr Mafala explained though that at inception, some works such as surfaced playgrounds and improvement of access roads into the schools, were excluded, owing to financial considerations, the two projects were later awarded at a lower price than anticipated, leading to a substantial saving.
He said GCC now intended to use the money for the playing grounds and access roads, subject to the parent ministry’s approval.
Mafala explained that each school comprises 22 classrooms, an administration wing, kitchen and dining block, resource centre, library, ablution blocks, and staff houses.
As for Maruapula Clinic, which was constructed through the Constituency Community Programme, Mr Mafala said the project was complete, adding that the facility’s pharmacy was currently being stocked. ends
