Batswana Urged To Be Nations Ambassadors

Batswana living in Kenya were on Tuesday night implored to act as the country’s ambassadors, through excelling in what they do, and expressing good moral values associated with the country’s positive international image.
Batswana expatriate workers and students were urged to give the country a good imagine.
Vice President, Mr Slumber Tsogwane said this during a reception for him to meet the Botswana diaspora in Kenya, hosted by the Botswana High Commissioner to Kenya, Ambassador Andrew Sesinyi in Nairobi
He said the country’s national values, democracy, development, self-reliance, unity and botho, need to be expressed in the character Batswana displayed to the outside world.
Mr Tsogwane said by reflecting a positive image to the world, Batswana would continue to motivate the goodwill the country enjoys in the global community, which could reap benefits should as investment, tourism and the country’s citizens being sought after for key posts in international organisations.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday at State House, Nairobi, Ambassador Sesinyi presented his diplomatic letters of credence to Kenyan President Mr William Ruto, to officially mark the official commencement of his tour of duty heading the Botswana Mission at Nairobi.
Botswana and Kenya established diplomatic ties in 1966 under the leadership of founding Presidents Sir Seretse Khama and Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.
Later, the two countries established diplomatic chanceries in each other’s capitals.
In 2016, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Business Botswana and the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI), and the two states have been working on actualising improved trade links.
Among other treaties previously agreed to between the two states include the Framework to establish a Joint Permanent Commission on Cooperation, and MoUs on Tourism and on Integrated Water Resource Management. Ends
