Morwaeng visits accident victims consoles families of the dead

The Minister for State President, Mr Kabo Morwaeng, on Friday visited survivors of a horrific road accident, which occurred at Lepashe junction near Marapong along A3 Road recently.

Some survivors of the accident, which claimed 22 lives, are hospitalised at Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital and Riverside in Francistown.

Two survivors were admitted and released while five are still hospitalised; three at Nyangabgwe and the other two at Riverside Private Hospital.

Mr Morwaeng, who was accompanied by Minister of Education and Skills Development, Dr Douglas Letsholathebe, wished the victims courage and speedy recovery.

“You should know that you have government’s full support,” Mr Morwaeng said, further explaining that he was sent by President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi to check on the victims.

He said from the update they received from doctors, the hospitalised victims were recuperating well.

“Doctors are doing everything they can to give them the best care,” he said.

Mr Morwaeng further sent messages of condolences to families of the 22 who lost their lives.

He further urged road users, including motorists, to be cautious on the roads to avoid accidents that ended up injuring and claiming lives.

For her part, Dr Gobusaone Morupisi from Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital said in an interview that after learning about the accident, they responded quickly, but regretted that the 22 people had already died when they reached the scene.

She said seven were referred to health facilities, but two were treated and dismissed. 

“Three are here in Nyangabgwe while two are at Riverside,” she said.

Meanwhile, Tatitown police, district traffic officer, Superintendent Robert Mmese confirmed that the A3 Road victims had been identified..

The deceased, he said, included 43-year-old man of Tutume, 52-year-old man of Zimbabwe, 37-year-old woman, 21-year-old woman from Sekakangwe, 47-year-old man from Congo residing at Dukwi camp, 65-year-old woman from Somalia, 35-year-old woman from Francistown, 47-year-old man from Gweta, 56-year-old man from Zimbabwe, three-year-old baby boy from Sekakangwe, 34-year-old man from Tsamaya, 30-year-old woman from Nokaneng and a 57-year-old woman from Topisi.

Others are a 32-year-old woman from Zoroga, 34-year-old man from Bobonong, 66-year-old man from Zimbabwe, 55-year-old woman from Shashemooke, 43-year-old woman from Makobo, 49-year-old woman from Zimbabwe, 51-year-old man from Nata, 44-year-old man from Mabesekwa as well as a 41-year-old man from Zambia.
