Teachers donate house in Ditladi
04 Jun 2023
Efforts by teachers to give back to the community shows that they take their profession beyond the walls of the classroom and change lives outside schools.
Minister of Education and Skills Development, Dr Douglas Letsholathebe said this during Teachers Day celebrations in the North East District last Friday.
The minister commended teachers for donating a two-roomed house worth over P90 000 to a family in Ditladi.
The minister also said teaching and learning could not bring expected outcomes if those intended to benefit from it did not live in a conducive environment.
He therefore praised the teachers for changing the living conditions of the benefitting family so that the children could live in a conducive environment for learning.
Dr Letsholathebe also noted that part of their mandate was to cater for every child despite their background or well-being.
Giving an overview of the project, North East District regional director, Mr Lebane Mokgosi said the project started slowly in 2017 due to financial constraints, and to raise funds they agreed that teachers contribute P20, P30 or P50 depending on their salary scale.
He said they raised P45 000 while the project needed about P90 000, adding that they approached private companies and other stakeholders seeking help. He commended all the teachers in the region and their stakeholders as well as students at Shashe Brigade and Francistown College of Vocational Training for their labour. ends
