Mokaila urges residents not to lose trust

31 Jan 2013

Moshupa residents have been urged to be patient and wait for the completion of water supply augmentation projects aimed at reducing water shortage in the country.

Speaking at a kgotla meeting in Moshupa on Tuesday, the Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources, Mr Kitso Mokaila said residents should not lose trust in the services rendered by Water Utilities Corporation (WUC).

The Minister said he was aware of complaints about WUC services and pleaded with residents to give the corporation time to deliver what it had planned, adding it was on the right track.

He said after WUC took over all potable water services there was a great deal to be done which included replacing low quality pipes which resulted in frequent pipe bursts. The minister noted that damaged or leaking pipes were replaced with high quality ones.

Mr Mokaila also informed Moshupa residents that he was optimistic that after completion of the water supply augmentation projects, WUC would be in a position to provide sustainable water services countrywide.

He noted that phase 1 of the Goodhope water supply project, which was launched recently, has already started, adding that Moshupa would be connected to phase two of the water supply project.

On other issues, Minister Mokaila urged Moshupa residents who got water from standpipes to prepare for the prepaid standpipes which would provide water to a group of households at a central location to limit water overuse.

He explained that residents who used public standpipes would have to pay a refundable fee of P40 to use the service. ENDS
