Gravel road to be tarred
29 May 2023
Vice President, Mr Slumber Tsogwane has assured Makalamabedi residents that the gravel road connecting Motopi and Makalamabedi will be tarred soon.
Addressing a Kgotla meeting on Friday, Mr Tsogwane said the project had been included in the newly adopted National Development Transition Plan.
“Site visit for the project has already been done and currently awaiting awarding of the tender for the contractor to commence work,” he said.
For a long time, people had decried the bad state of the said road especially during rainy season. Another project budgeted for in the 2023-2024 financial year, Mr Tsogwane said, was the Mokoboxane water treatment plant, which had already started.
Upon completion, the plant will supply villages such as Xhumo, Mopipi and Toromoja among others. On a different matter, the vice president highlighted that government encouraged small stock farming as it was lucrative.
He said in an effort to empower small stock farmers in the country, relevant departments had been tasked to identify suitable land for small stock ranches to be allocated to Batswana.
Mr Tsogwane further told Makalamabedi residents that government would continue looking for a foreign market for small stock. The current government, he said, wanted to see every Motswana benefiting from value chains, be it in the agricultural sector or the mining sector.
He also talked about the new ISPAAD, which he said would be implemented this ploughing season. On another issue, the VP decried rampant stock theft in Boteti, and encouraged farmers to form syndicates to look out for each other.
He however noted that an anti-stock theft police unit had been established and already 150 officers had been trained and would be deployed in various stations across the country. ENDS
